Orphanage Construction Begins

June, 2007

Construction of the Girls’ Orphanage begins with the digging of the foundation and the building of the support columns. The orphanage is to house 50 providing them with dormitories, recreation, education facilities, study areas, and kitchen and an eating area.

The Indian government has deemed it necessary to widen the main highway passing by DKSHA from two lanes to 4 lanes. Having travelled that highway, one realizes how good that decision is. Unfortunately, they have expropriated DKSHA property that contains the main facility as well as the residence of the DKSHA staff, and the main well for the compound. Compensation is half of what it will cost to rebuild elsewhere on the existing property.

The orphanage is being built on newly acquired property adjacent to the DKSHA property. Funding for the construction has raised 40% of the $25,000 (Can) needed to complete the building. When compared with comparable projects here in Canada , this is a small amount. However, regardless of the size of the amount, if there is no support given, the project will have to be postponed and the girls will have to find alternative housing.
