Day 10 – Church

This morning Isaac noticed a scorpion in his hut. Its head was missing.

No idea where the head went. He says it's the fault of the thatched roof. It attracts large insects

and snakes. They tend to fall into the room on occasion. I don’t have a thatched roof thankfully

but it’s rather invigorating to say the least.

Church was held at 10:30 in the DKSHA main building. It is a multipurpose facility built by Isaac

with his own money when DKSHA was just starting up. The service went well. It was almost 4 hours.

People kept getting up and leaving for a few minutes.

I spoke for about 25 minutes with Isaac translating (nobody got up and left).

There were two other speakers, and a moderator, lots of singing and Bible readings.

The singing was different. There were no instruments except clapping. I didn't recognize the tunes

although the clapping did sound familiar. I just stood and listened. One of the boys clapped loud

and off the beat adding character. The people sang around it.

I spoke on Acts 2:42 - 47. I related our present circumstances with foreigners and locals meeting together

and sharing food, lodging and fellowship in Jerusalem . I pointed out 4 things:

  1. Different Countries
  2. Different Races
  3. Different Cultures
  4. Common Saviour.

I think it went very well. Will have to wait till the ratings come out.

One of the speakers was Dr Jerald. He has been mentioned in a number of Isaac's emails.

He is a nice person. He spoke on Love and its need in a Christian's life. Isaac kept me aware of the verses

being referenced so I had an Idea where Dr. Jerald was going. I am not sure what the other speaker talked on.

Isaac had me present Bibles to those who didn't have any. He would like 500 more Tamil Language

Bibles to be distributed in the Dalit villages in the area.

Following the service Isaac provides a light lunch for the people before they head home.

Now, Isabella’s idea is great food and lots of it so light takes on a new meaning. Dr. Jerald, the moderator

and I ate in the house; the remaining people ate where ever they could find space.

Weather here is cloudy today but it is never cool. Windows (shutters) are never closed in the daytime,

just at night. My room is host to a lizard. It wanders over the walls and keeps down the insects. Kinda cute.

 Sort of quiet day
